History
The history of Perth began in the year 1826 when a British troop from Sydney was send to claim New Holland (old name for Western Australia) for Britain. In the same year, Captain James Stirling landed here to look for an area on the Swan River that could be settled for the immigrants.
The colony was established on May 2, 1829 at the mouth of Swan River but faced many difficulties in the coming years due to bad infrastructure, lack of labour, and regular floods. British government tried to solve the problem by sending convict labourers here from 1850 onwards to make roads, buildings, parks, and other civic necessities. The discovery of gold at Halls Creek in Kimberley in 1885 and subsequent discoveries at other places changed the face of the city with lot of wealth coming in. The city never looked back after that and continue prospering even now.
