Ajmer is a beautiful township, established in the tenth century by Raja Ajay Pal Chauhan. He built the Chauhan dynasty which continued to rule the country while repeated waves of Muslim invasion swept across India. The city is well laid out with wide streets and handsome houses. Ajmer is also the base for visiting Pushkar, the abode of Lord Brahma,lying to its west with a temple and a picturesque lake. The Pushkar Lake is a sacred spot for Hindus. During the month of Kartik, devotes throng in large numbers here to take a dip in the sacred lake.
