Jhansi, the gateway to Bundelkhand in Uttarpradesh, famous for its brave queen Laxmibai, holds an important place in the history of India. The old city, which is enclosed by a wall was built in 1613. A massacre of British officers and civilians occurred at Jhansi during the 1857 Indian Mutiny. Rani Laxi Bai led her troops into battle, striking a blow for Indian independence and laying her life down for the cause. She still stands as an inspiring folklore in this region. Jhansi is the capital of sorts for the Bundelkhand region.
The massive Jhansi fort, Rani Mahal, Museum and Maha Lakshmi temple hold tourists’ attention here. Mahavir Swami Wildlife Sanctuary, Barua Sagar, Talinjar, Parichha, Fatehpur, Samthar, Orchha, Shivpuri, Datia and Sonagiri are the other excursions from Jhansi. The splendid Jhansi Festival adds another dimension to the city. It is an annual event scheduled in February/March each year--a display of the arts and crafts and culture of the region. Hotels in Jhansi are equipped with modern facilities for tourists’ comfortable stay. They offer a great deal of cuisines in economical price ranges.
So plan a rendezvous with Jhansi and leave the rest on us.
