Introduction
In 1950s, mass immigration of Jews to Kerala began. Kerala, a land of many cultures and communities welcomed the emigrants and began the intermingling and fusion of two separate ethnic groups.
Built in 1568, the Jewish Synagogue - Kochi is the oldest and most renowned synagogue among the commonwealth countries of the world. Partially destroyed during the war of 1662, it was rebuilt by the Dutch. The special features of the synagogue are the clock tower and exquisite hand painted blue Chinese tiles. The gold and silver crowns offered to the synagogue by different patrons are displayed.
How to get there
Kochi is 218 kilometers north of Thiruvananthapuram and 223 kilometers south of Kozhikode. One can avail of the National Highway 17 to get to the Jewish synagogue.
