Introduction
Guruvayoor Temple is an extremely revered and popular pilgrimage center in Kerala. The temple is dedicated to Lord Krishna and the shrine is in a rectangular shape. The interior of the temple is exquisitely designed with mural paintings.
In the outer walls or 'Chuttambalam' is a 33 meter tall gold plated flagpost known as 'Dwajastambham'. There is also a 7 meter high pillar of lamps or 'Deepastambham' which adds to the beauty of the temple. The 'Sreekovil' is the sacred sanctum where the main deity is laid. The temple also has images of Ganapathy, Sree Ayyappa and Edathedathy Kavil Bhagavathy.
