Introduction
Thiruvalla Temple – Alappuzha is one of the largest and revered temples of Kerala showcasing the traditional style of architecture. Dedicated to Lord Vishnu, the temple is unique for its 50 feet high flag post made of granite. The idol of Lord Vishnu's vehicle, Garuda is fixed on the top of the flag post.
The Thiruvalla Temple is believed to date back to pre-Christian era. The broad and long corridors add to the beauty of the temple. It has a natural pool in the premises.
Attractions
The special attraction of the temple is the Kathakali, Kerala's traditional form of dance, is staged every evening. It is believed by his devotees that Lord Vishnu watches the performance from heaven.
How to get there
The Thiruvalla Temple – Alappuzha is 100 meters from Sabarimala. The ideal route to travel to Sabarimala is through Chalakkayam from where the pilgrims can reach the banks of the river Pamba by vehicle. Pampa is the main stop to go to Sabarimala, from where the temple is a trek of about 5 kilometers.
