Introduction
Built by Maharaja Jai Singh II of the Kachwaha clan of the Rajputs, the City Palace represents an exquisite fusion of traditional Rajasthan and Mughal architecture. The palace comprises small palaces like Chandra Mahal, Mubarak Mahal and Badal Mahal and is separated by several courtyards, gardens and smaller complexes.
Description
The exquisitely designed seven-tiered Chandra Mahal forms the core of the City Palace.
The Mubarak Mahal or the Welcome Palace was built in the 19th century by Maharaja Sawai Madho Singh II as a reception room for dignitaries visiting the palace.
The imposing Singh Pol or Lion Gate is the gateway to the celebrated Diwan-e-Aam and Diwan-e-Khas. The Diwan-e-Aam or the Hall of Public Audience was the court where the ruler addressed public gatherings. The Diwan-e-Khas or the Hall of Private Audience was the court where ruler addressed private gatherings.
