The royal state of Rajasthan is awash with many majestic palaces, imposing forts and temples, which are well known for their architecture and design. There are many museums in Rajasthan, which are treasure trove of ancient manuscripts, weapons Apart from these the recently opened museums and art galleries in the palaces of former rulers of erstwhile states have helped to preserve the great heritage of the state of Rajasthan.

Among the most famous museums in Rajasthan is the Ajmer Government Museum. The city of Ajmer is dotted with several forts and tombs representing the Mughal architecture. Situated in the center of the old city of Ajmer in Rajasthan, the museum is close to the railway station. Housed in the beautiful fort and palace built by the Mughal Emperor Akbar in 1570, the museum has a large collections of antiques. The site marks the place where the British envoy Sir Thomas Roe met Emperor Jahangir in 1616. Another museum in Ajmer is the Archaeological Museum, located in the Dil-e-Aaram Gardens.


Another prominent museum in Rajasthan is the Fateh Prakash Palace Museum in Chittaurgarh. Forming the portion of the Palace, it was converted into a museum in 1968. It is in fact a treasure trove of sculptures. Amongst the important ones are Ganpati from Pangarh along with Indra and Jain Ambica statues from Rashmi village of Podt medieval period. Also on display in the museum are many weapons, daggers, and armory.

The city of Bikaner in the state of Rajasthan is also replete with museums including the Fort Museum of Junagarh Fort. This Fort museum in Bikaner has a fine collection of antique Rajput, weaponry, jade handle daggers, camel hide and inlaid handguns and camel guns. Cold and silver howdahs, jhulas, kis, and a First World War biplane are on display. Other important items include a pair of drums belonging to jamblioji, the mystic who forecast the foundation of the dynasty by Rao Bika for 450 years. Photographs and items of domestic use by Maharaja Ganga Singh and miniatures are also on display.

The Ganga Golden Jubilee Museum is another important museum in Rajasthan. A fine collection of the heritage of Rajasthan, this museum in Bikaner has some principal sections like the History, Sculpture, Terracotta, Maharaja Ganga Singh Memorial, local Arts and Crafts section, Miniature Paintings, Folk-Arts section and Bronzes Armory.
