The Desert National Park is an area of diverse relief, comprising of sand dunes, weathered rocky areas, salt bottoms and fixed dunes supporting a wide variety of fauna. Located near Jaisalmer in Rajasthan, this is one of the largest national parks, which covers an area of about 3100 sq km.

This Park is a heaven for a wide variety of spectacular birds and migratory birds who come flying in all seasons. The birds that can be seen here are eagles, falcons, buzzards, hariers, vultures and kestrels. There are also many varieties of eagles found, such as short toed eagles, tawny eagles, spotted eagles. There are fossilized tree trunks and sea shells that record the geological history of the desert national park .
Among animals, the Black Bucks are a common antelope of the region while other popular inhabitants are the desert fox, wolf and desert cat. But the most important of the fauna is the Great Indian Bustard found here. This bird, standing tall and strong can be spotted in a group of five or six in the Desert National Park.

If you want to reach the Desert national park by rail, Jaisalmer is the nearest Railway station. The nearby airports from the Desert National Park are Jodhpur and Jaisalmer. By road, it takes about 8 hours to drive from Jodhpur.
