This area is made up of four settlements - Juodkrante, Pervalka, Preila and Nida - none of which are more than a couple of kilometres from the coast. The 100 km area of sand dunes is composed of lush pine forests inhabited by elk, deer and wild boar. The summer can be enjoyed on the jet skis or paddleboats in Nida; ice fishing and drinking vodka are the principal winter pursuits in the town.

Druskininkai is known for its mineral springs with their curative powers since the 19th century. Druskininkai is also birthplace of many artists and painters. Hill of Crosses hillock in the forest is marked by thousands of crosses whether large and tiny, expensive and cheap, wooden and metal. Palanga is a quiet city along a long, sandy beach backed by pine-covered dunes, a large botanical park with a rose garden; pagan shrine and a fantastic Amber Museum.

Cross-country skiing, Ice skating and Toboganning are popular winter sports in the town. Aukstaitija National Park has some of the best cross-country skiing trails in the town. Canoeing is another sport in the country. The west coast of the country is home to large number of bird species, ideal for bird-watchers.
