Introduction
Slovakia is a small picturesque country with a panoramic village life and peasant traditions. The ideal months for a visit to Slovakia is May, June and September. Slovakia is one of the Eastern Europe's prime hiking areas, also good for rafting, skiing and cycling, mountaineering and mountain biking.

Bratislava (Pozsony in Hungarian, Pressburg in German) is Slovakia's largest city and the capital city since 1969. The main attractions of the country are the vineyards on the slopes of the Little Carpathian Mountains, where they meet the Danube River. Many beautiful monuments have survived the ravages of time and stand in the old town its colonial past under Hungarian empire. Bratislava also has numerous museums, a castle, the Municipal Museum, the Museum of Wine Production, Museum of Folk Music and the palaces. The Slovak National Museum and the Slovak National Gallery on the Danube River are also worth a visit.

Spissky hrad (Zipser Burg) is the largest castle in Slovakia founded in 1209. The Malá Fatra National Park stretches across north-western Slovakia. Vrátna at the center of the park is a beautiful mountain valley with forested slopes on all sides. In winter, the valley transforms into a popular ski resort. The Vysoké Tatry (High Tatras) are the one of the smallest high mountain ranges in the world. These ranges accommodate 30 valleys, almost 100 glacial lakes and numerous bubbling streams with a network of 600km (372mi) of hiking.

Dunajec Gorge has Pieniny National Park (21 sq km/8 sq mi and a 14th-century fortified Carthusian Monastery, now converted into a park, administrative centre and a museum.

The spectacular landscapes of Slovak Karst lure the tourists. The Domica Cave here is one of the biggest caves in the world. Trenciánske Teplice is a spa town in West Slovakia featured by the hiking trails. Trnava is Slovakia's oldest town enduring a historical legacy of almost three centuries as Hungary's religious center.
