Bhandasar Jain Temple is one of the most frequented temples of Bikaner. It is a double storied temple dedicated to Sumatinath, the 5th Jain Tirthankara. The serenity of the interiors propels a calmness and enthralls one when you spot the marble idol of Lord Sumatinath alighted over a silver throne on a 2 feet high marquee.
The temple was built by a rich businessman of the medieval times called Bhanda Shah. It is said 40,000 kilograms of ghee was used instead of mortar. The gold leaf and floral works on the walls and the Italian marbled floor of the inner chamber of the ground floor speaks of the opulence as well as of aesthetic beauty. The massive marble pillars with floral patters intricately carved on them speak of the skill of the artisans. There are beautiful folk paintings that decorate the entire interiors. There are sandstone pillars too with sculptured figurines of graceful maidens.
The first floor is relatively simpler than the second floor of the Jain temple. The second floor of the Bhandasar Jain Temple houses the shrines of the Jain deities. The beautiful silver balls that hang from the ceiling add to the beauty of the second floor. There are many intricately designed balconies in the first and the second floor of the temple.
