Introduction to Mirza Ghalib’s Tomb
Mirza Asadullah Khan Ghalib, or Mirza Ghalib as he was more popularly known as was the greatest Urdu Poet of the 19th century, a legendary figure who was often considered the Urdu Shakespeare. Mirza Ghalib’s tomb in Delhi is one of the other innumerable tourist places in Delhi, where history comes alive. This tomb is located north of the enclosure of Chaunsath Khamba, very close to Nizamuddin’s tomb (please link to the relevant page), in the Nizamuddin west area. Through the lanes of the Nizamuddin village, visitors can enter Mirza Ghalib’s tomb and pay homage to the greatest Urdu poet of Delhi.
History of Mirza Ghalib’s Tomb
Writer of Ghazals, poet with so many beautiful lyrical Love poems and verses in Urdu, teacher of Bahadur Shah II, a friend to the Mughul Emperor Bahadur Shah ‘Zafar’, Mirza Ghalib was all of them. His marble chiseled tomb was designed by the famous architect of Hyderabad, Nawab Jang Bahadur. Close to Ghalib’s Tomb, a Ghalib Academy was established to perpetuate his works and his memory.

Mirza Ghalib’s Tomb is located within a small courtyard which remains locked and is covered by a fine marble structure. There are a few more graves around Ghalib’s tomb, which is close to the Ghalib Academy.
How to reach Mirza Ghalib’s Tomb
There are local buses that can be taken from all points of the city to reach Mirza Ghalib’s tomb. Auto Rickshaws, taxis, metro rail can also be availed. Nizamuddin Railway station is the closest rail station whereas Central Secretariat is the closest Metro station to the tomb.
