Lodurva was the ancient capital of the Bhattis. Rajput founder, Rawal jaisal abandoned Lodhurva when it was continuously invaded by Mohammad Gazni on his way to loot the Somnath Temple and later Muhammad Ghori who also left his indent in the Lodurva town. Jaisal shifted to Jaisalmer about 16kms from Lodurva and built the fort of Jaisalmer in 1156. The Lodurva temples are beautiful temple painstakingly constructed and intricately designed in yellow sandstone. The ancient town that is in ruins has some beautiful Jain temples in its complex. The Parshvanath Temple is the main temple that was destroyed in 1152 but was reconstructed again in 1675 and 1687. The temple has a Torana Dwar or the main arched doorway intricately designed with a Rajput sentry. Inside the temple, the idol of the prophet, Parshvanath, in black stone resides with a multi-hooded serpent canopied over his head.
In the temple complex is the Kalpavriksha or the celestial tree. It is a wish fulfillment tree made of eight metal alloys. The leaves of copper have the power to fulfill your wishes. It is an eternal tree symbolizing enlightenment.
The second of the Jain temples in Lodurva is the Rishabhnath temple located near the ruins of the Moomal palace and the river Kak. A wealthy merchant built the temple in 1479. Rishabhnath is the first of the Jain fore makers whose symbol is a bull. The followers of Lord Shiva revere Bull.
The Shambhavanth Temple is the third Jain temple of Lodurva dedicated to Shambhavnath, the Jain monk whose symbol is the horse. The temple is on an octagonal roof and is surrounded by a fortified wall. On the four corners of the complex are temples dedicated to the four Jain Tirthankaras.
