Built in the Indo Aryan style, Jagdish Temple of Udaipur is one of the most frequented temples of Lord Vishnu. It is an elevated temple of three shrines with the middle shrine dominating the other two smaller shrines. Maharana Jagat Singhji constructed the magnificent temple in between 1628 to 1653. It is located at a distance of 150 meters from the Bara Pol of the City Palace complex. Jagdish Temple being holy shrine of the Hindus is frequented by tourists all over the country. The marble structure housing the shrine of Lord Vishnu is flanked at its foothold of 37 marble steps by two life sized statues of elephants. This magnificent building is worth 1.5 million rupees. At the entrance of the temple there are inscriptions about the Maharja on a stone slab. The central shrine has the image of Lord Vish or Jagannath in black marble. The temple has fixed timings for devotees and hymns and prayers are heard being chanted from a distance.
