Lake Palace Tours

At the first sight of the Lake Palace you would be wondering if you have left behind the city of skyscrapers and have stepped into the magical world of fairies and elves, where there are floating palaces, singing birds, murmuring brooks and flower strewn.

Located on the Jag Niwas Island which covers an area of 1.5 hectares, the Lake Palace sits pretty in the midst of the Pichola Lake. It is a magnificent edifice built in1743 by Maharana Jagat Singh for a royal summer retreat. Lake Palace tours will take you to the fascinating Lake Palace aloft the beautiful Pichola Lake with the dark Aravallis in the backdrop.

In the 17th century the Lake Palace was built on the 4 acres of natural rock and was initially called Jaginwas after Maharaja Jagjit Singh who was its founder. The interiors of the Lake Palace are equally enchanting. Decorated with paintings, art and artifacts it is reminiscent of the bygone Mewar era. The courtyard of the Lake Palace is equally enthralling with pillared terraces and fountains. The palace rooms hold the royal charm with cusped arches, painted mirrors and intricate floral patters of pink and green lotus leaves. Sajjan Niwas, Phool Mahal, Khush Mahal, Bada Mahal and the Dhola Mahal are the other places of interest within the lake Palace. A beautiful statue of a maiden in marble is located close to the palace. Its is said the statue is of a dancer who accepted the emperor’s challenge to dance her way on a rope from the shores of Lake Pichola to the Jag Niwas Palace and drowned on her way. This magnificent Palace has been converted into luxurious heritage resort.
